Medstar Makes Memorial Day Contribution to Vietnam Veterans

Defibrillator will be used at Veterans Center and Mobile Wall Memorial Events

Clinton Township, Mary 24, 2013:

Medstar Ambulance presented the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154 with an automated external defibrillator as part of the EMS agency’s EMS Week celebration, and in honor of the Veterans service to their country on the Memorial Day Weekend.  Medstar has provided mini-grants to assist non-profit, civic, and other community groups in purchasing the emergency devices since early 2012.

“The AED, combined with early CPR, is the key to survival of an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest,” according to Kolby Miller, Medstar CEO.  “Providing an AED to the Vietnam Veterans Chapter is a great way for us to get another device into the community, and an expression of our thanks and honor for their service to our country. The chapter provides incredibly valuable services to veterans and others in our service area. ”

Brian Bobek, President of Chapter 154 said “We know that are members are aging, and we’ve already had one medical emergency here at the Veterans Center.  When we learned from Ted Wahby that Medstar had their mini-grant program, we pursed it immediately.  Medstar advised us in the selection of the device, and provided the grant funding quickly.  They will be providing AED and CPR training early next month.  This is a great program, and we appreciate their contribution and recognition.”

The Veterans Center is located on 12 Mile Road in Roseville, and has provided no-cost service to vets since 1993, including food pantry services, Honor Guard for funerals, supporting the POW/MIA Initiative, and the Travelling Wall Memorial, VA Assistance, and a speakers bureau.

Medstar is a non-profit ambulance service serving communities in Lapeer, Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne Counties, transporting approximately 80,000 patients each year.  Medstar is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services, and is a leader in the nationally benchmarked EMS patient satisfaction survey.
